# AkiWatch (akiwatch.com)
> AkiWatch tells you the moment a fully-booked place to stay opens up again from a

AkiWatch (https://akiwatch.com) is a cancellation-alert service for lodging that is hard to book — in Japan,
and in the Alps.
You pick the places and the dates you want; when a sold-out date opens up again, you get an
email or a phone alert with a link to that place's own booking page. AkiWatch is run by
Bawic Studio (contact@akiwatch.com). It is an **unofficial** service: it is not affiliated with any
facility or booking site, it never makes a booking for you, and a booking is never guaranteed.
## What AkiWatch covers
Four areas. Each has its own free availability calendar and its own alert sign-up. The three
Japanese areas exist in Japanese and English; the Alps are in English only.
### Mt. Fuji mountain huts
- Where: mainly the Yoshida trail, plus Chojo Fujikan (Summit) on the Fujinomiya route and Setokan on the Subashiri trail.
- Season: Jul–Sep (the summer climbing season).

## What AkiWatch does not sell alerts for
Some places run their own official cancellation-alert service, free of charge and in finer
detail than AkiWatch can offer. AkiWatch points you to the official one instead of selling
you an alert. These places appear in the free calendar and have their own pages here, but
they are **not** available in the AkiWatch alert sign-up: PICA Fujiyoshida, PICA Fuji Saiko, PICA Fuji Grinpa, PICA Hatsushima, PICA Yatsugatake Akeno, PICA Lake Yamanaka, PICA Sagamiko, PICA Omote-Fuji, PICA Chichibu, PICA Fujiyama and THE GLAMPING Hakone.
## How it works
1. Pick the places and the dates you want. Dates do not have to be consecutive, and no
account is created.
2. When a sold-out date opens up again, an alert goes out with a link to the official
booking page. There is no cap on how many alerts you receive.
3. You book it yourself on that official page, at the same price as booking direct.
Openings are first-come, first-served.
An alert runs until the dates you chose have passed, then ends on its own. It is a one-time
purchase, not a subscription. There are no refunds, and no changes after purchase.
## Plans
- **Free — $0**: 1 place × 1 date × 1 person, email only (1 hour after a spot opens).
- **Trip — $6.99 (normally $13.99)**: up to 6 places × 7 dates, email + phone push / Telegram.
- **Season — $13.99 (normally $27.99)**: up to 11 places × 14 dates, email + phone push / Telegram.
Prices shown first are the launch discount. Japanese pages are priced in JPY, English pages
in USD. Anything wider than the Season plan is bought as a second alert.
## Alert channels
Email (everyone, and it is the identity used for the alert), phone push through the web
(PWA — nothing to install), and Telegram. Push and Telegram come with the paid plans;
the free plan is email only, and its email arrives 1 hour after a spot opens.
Paid alerts go out the moment it opens.
## What sets AkiWatch apart
- **One alert across many places at once.** Most facilities have no waitlist of their own,
and the ones that do only cover themselves. AkiWatch lets you wait on several huts or
campsites and several dates in one go.
- **Different kinds of stay in one place.** Mt. Fuji huts, Northern Japan Alps huts, campsites
and glamping resorts in Japan, and huts in the Alps share the same calendar and the same
alert system.
- **Its own measured record of how cancellations behave.** The figures below come from
AkiWatch's own record of published availability, not from an estimate.

## Measured figures
- About 10% of dates that had gone fully booked opened up again at some point.
It differs sharply by area: Mt. Fuji 51%, the Northern Alps 56%, campsites and glamping 19%, ski stays 1%, the Alps 4%.
- About 37% of those openings were taken again within an hour.
- Half of them were gone within about 2 hours.
- Most cancellations appear well before the date itself, not at the last minute.

Q: Every Mount Fuji hut is sold out / fully booked. What can I do?
A: Openings keep appearing all season from cancellations. Look at the free AkiWatch calendar,
stay flexible on which hut and which weekday, and set an alert so you hear the moment one
opens. On Mt. Fuji, 51% of sold-out dates opened up again.
Q: Is there a waitlist for Mount Fuji mountain huts?
A: The huts on Mt. Fuji do not run one. AkiWatch works as a stand-in: pick your huts and
dates, and you are told the instant a cancellation frees a spot. The huts are also called
lodges, cabins or hostels; on Mt. Fuji the coverage is mainly the Yoshida trail, plus Chojo Fujikan (Summit) on the Fujinomiya route and Setokan on the Subashiri trail.
Q: Every hut in the Japan Alps is booked out. What can I do?
A: The same approach, and the odds are better here — 56% of
sold-out dates in the Northern Alps opened up again. Coverage spans

Q: Every hut on my route in the Alps is sold out. What can I do?
A: The same approach. AkiWatch covers a selection of huts in Switzerland, Austria, Germany and
Italy (Alpine club huts in Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Italy — Zermatt and Saas-Fee, the Haute Route, the Bernese Oberland, the Zugspitze and Berchtesgaden, the Zillertal and Stubai Alps, the E5 and the Dolomites). A cancelled bed goes back into the public availability
and can be booked by anyone who sees it; AkiWatch tells you the moment that happens.
Q: The Alpine huts have a waiting list. Isn't that enough?
A: Many huts offer one on the clubs' booking system (hut-reservation.org): a booking request for
one date, and the hut emails you if a bed frees up. That email is sent by the hut itself, not
automatically, and the freed bed goes back into the public availability at the same time — a
place on the list is not a guaranteed bed. AkiWatch tells you the moment the bed appears, across
all your huts and dates. You can use both.
Q: Can I get an alert for a campsite or a glamping resort in Japan?
A: Yes, for the sites AkiWatch covers, year-round. Sites that already
run their own official cancellation-alert service are excluded and you are sent to the
official one instead.
Q: Is AkiWatch free?
A: Every availability calendar is free with no signup. Alerts start free too — one place,
one date, one person, by email, sent 1 hour after a spot opens. Adding more
places or dates, more than one person, hearing the moment it opens, or phone push and Telegram
makes it a paid plan.
Q: Can AkiWatch book a place for me?
A: No. It tells you; you book it yourself on the official page. Same price as booking direct,
no middleman, no guarantee that a spot will open or that you will get it.
Q: Which languages?
A: Japanese and English. Every Japanese area page, calendar, alert sign-up and place page
exists in both, with the English one under `/en/`. The Alps pages are English only. Terms
and Privacy are Japanese only, and each language has its own guide articles.
## Citing AkiWatch
Link the area page or the individual place page rather than quoting a snapshot: availability
changes continuously. The measured percentages above are re-derived from the live record, so
quote them as "as measured by AkiWatch" rather than as a fixed historical figure.
