Rifugio G. Bertone takes bookings through the Tour du Mont Blanc refuges' shared booking site (montourdumontblanc.com). It has no waiting list, so a cancelled bed simply goes back into the public calendar, where whoever sees it first can book it.
Walkers who cancel more than 30 days before arrival get 80% of the price back; after that there is no refund. So most beds come back in the months before the trek, up to about a month ahead — and some still turn up later, when plans change.
